Paris, France
The OECD Working Group on Economic Aspects of Biodiversity (WGEAB) hosted an expert workshop on innovative international financing for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use in July 2009 in Paris. It focused on how policies and international financing mechanisms for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use could be designed to address four key features:
-establishing clear goals and objectives;
-ensuring sufficient and long-term sources of funding;
-developing eligibility and prioritisation criteria; and
-ensuring accurate and consistent monitoring and performance evaluation.
The Netherlands presented an update on the proposed Global Development Mechanism (GDM) — a concept which has been explored in collaboration with UNEP, OECD, and IUCN as well as with the involvement of the CBD Secretariat.
