About us
The GDM 2010 Initiative was launched in the 3rd quarter of 2009 in response to a growing interest to develop innovative market-based financial mechanisms under the CBD. The Initiative was supported by funding from the Government of the Netherlands and by expert guidance from an international steering committee of biodiversity finance experts.
Its aim was to achieve a significant level of interest and support for the design and establishment of an international market-based mechanism for financing biodiversity by the 10th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity which took place in October 2010 in Nagoya, Japan. In response to the deliberations in Nagoya, the Green Development Initiative was established to move the process forward.
